Top Junior College Teams in the Country Visit the LifePlex

03/09/12 The madness of March gets an early start in Plymouth with National Junior College Athletic Association District 12 basketball tournament this weekend at the LifePlex.

Ancilla College was chosen as the host this year tournament with eight teams, four of the top women’s and four of the top men’s from the MCCAA Western Conference, coming to town in hopes of winning their way to a national tournament berth. The tournament begins on Friday afternoon at 2:00 p.m.

In the first game of the afternoon, the number one seeded men’s team, Lansing Community College, will take on Jackson Community College. Following the game, Muskegon Community College will play against Grand Rapids Community College. Tip-off for that game is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. The winners of those two games will play on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at the LifePlex for the championship.

The women’s playoff action begins Friday at 6:00 p.m. when the Lake Michigan College Indians, ranked 17th in the country, will play the fast-paced Jackson Community College club. Jackson has scored over 100 points in 17 of their 29 games this season. The final game pits Kalamazoo Valley Community College, seeded number one and ranked 3rd in the country, against the Muskegon Community College Jayhawks. That game is scheduled to start at 8:00 p.m.

The women’s championship final will be held on Saturday immediately following the men’s championship game.

All games are open to the public. Tickets are $5.00 per game or $8.00 for the entire tournament and are available at the door. The winner of this weekend’s tournament will go on to compete for the NJCAA Division II national title.
