02/14/13 On Wednesday Marshall County Superior Court I Judge, Robert Bowen found that there was probable cause for the arrest of 17 year old Michael Sobieck from Grovertown for two counts. Count one is Armed Robbery as a class B felony and count two is Intimidation as a class C felony. Bail has been set at $50,000 cash.
The arrest of Michael Sobieck came after he is alleged to have entered Karma Records at 2856 Miller Drive at approximately 5:23 p.m. on Monday, February 11th and remove cash from the cash register.
The female clerk called 9-1-1 immediately after the armed robbery and told the dispatcher that a male subject who appeared to be about 20 years old displayed a knife and threatened to murder her. The employee opened the cash register and stepped back allowing the robber to grab the cash from the register. She indicated that the suspect left the store and ran toward Beef O’Brady’s.
Plymouth Officer Shanna Gilmer responded to the area using Jim Neu Drive and observed a male subject walking in the field close to the roadway in the 2600 block. The male matched the description given by the Karma employee and the officer noticed that the lower portion of him, his pants and shoes were covered in mud. Officer Gilmer stopped and ordered the subject to the ground and he complied. He identified himself as Corey Sobieck and when asked where the knife was said he had thrown it in some weeds just off the trail in the wooded area. The suspect described the knife as a black and silver butterfly knife.
Officer Gilmer handcuffed the suspect and before placing him in the squad car asked his age. Sobieck said he was 17. The juvenile’s parents were called to the police station and declined to provide a statement and requested an attorney.
Indiana State Police Trooper Caswell and County Police Officer Bryant were able to locate the suspects knife in the wooded area.
Corey Sobieck is currently on juvenile probation in the Starke County Court for conversion.
Sobieck has been waived from juvenile court to adult court.
