January 21, 2014

01/22/14 Students, faculty, and staff gathered Monday to recognize and celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

January 20th marked this year’s holiday celebrating the achievements and messages of Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

The event was organized by the Student Development & Diversity Committee which consists of various faculty, administration, and staff members.  Professor of History, Dr. Tom Buchanan, and Professor of Religion, Philosophy, & Ethics, Rev. Dr. Sam Boys both spoke during the celebration.

“This is a great time to come together as a community to honor such an important part of our American past,” said Jill Neidlinger, Assistant Professor of Mathematics & Developmental Studies and Student Development & Diversity committee member.

“MLK was a national voice for freedom and justice.  He encouraged living to our potential especially through equal education opportunities so this is a great chance to pass on that message,” Neidlinger added.

Following the program students were able to enjoy a meal provided by Student Development and faculty donations.
