04/25/13 Nicholas A. Hundt, 34, of Plymouth was sentenced on April 17 in Marshall Superior Court 1 to 10 years imprisonment for manufacturing methamphetamine. In open court, Hundt admitted that on June 13, 2012 he manufactured methamphetamine in his vehicle as he drove around Plymouth.
A Pro-tem Judge approved the plea agreement reached between Chief Deputy Prosecuting Attorney E. Nelson Chipman, Jr. and defense attorney Tom Black, which provided for a sentence at the Indiana Department of Corrections of 10 years of imprisonment. No part of the sentence was suspended.
The case began when the Plymouth Police Department reported a shoplifter at the Dollar General Store located on Kingston Street. The employee of the store gave a description and the license number of the vehicle in which the shoplifter left the area. Officer James E. Brown, Jr. of the Plymouth Police drove toward the store and saw the vehicle as described by dispatch. Officer Brown followed the vehicle, but because he was in plain clothes as a detective and in an unmarked police car, he could not pull the suspect vehicle over. Instead he called for assistance and Cpl. Ray West arrived. The suspect vehicle had stopped at a house on Conger Street. The driver identified himself as Nicholas Hundt. It was determined Hundt had a suspended drivers license, and he was ordered to remove himself from the car.
In plain view inside the car were items and the packaging of items that was reported stolen from the Dollar General Store. Also found in the car were discarded items commonly identified as “meth trash.” The Indiana State Police Meth Suppression Team was called to the scene to assist in disposing of the hazardous materials. The ISP officers then found in the car an active methamphetamine lab, commonly referred to as a “one pot.”
Hundt was arrested for Manufacturing Methamphetamine, Theft from the Dollar General Store, and Driving While Suspended. Assisting Officer Brown in the investigation, arrest and successful prosecution of Hundt were Officer Steve DeLee, Cpl Ray West, Detective Leo Mangus, all of the Plymouth Police Department, and Troopers Andrew Cochran and Maggie Shortt of the Indiana State Police and the Marshall County Prosecutor’s Office.
