10/03/12 It’s gonna be a WILD one at Plymouth Speedway this coming Saturday night October 6th when Travis Pastrana and his crew, show up to the Speedway firing on all cylinders and looking to uncork a bottle of motorized mayhem at the appropriately dubbed “Nitrocross” event, sanctioned by USAC.
Benefitting injured local pro motocross racer Eric Saunders, Pastrana and his crew-headlined Nitrocross event at Plymouth Speedway will feature professional and amateur motocross racing – on the Speedway’s sizable infield – a freestyle show guaranteed to blow minds.
“Travis and I have been talking for some time now on putting an event together, and this October 6th at the Speedway things are going to erupt like you wouldn’t believe,” said Eric. “We’ll have everything from the most outlandish stunts ever performed at the Speedway, to a night of professional and amateur motocross racing, all sorts of prizes and, above all, the opportunity for fans to meet and mingle with Travis and his crew.”
Though a 2010 injury on his motor-cross practice track cut short a promising professional motocross career, the accident didn’t dampen Eric Saunders’ passion for success, seen in his “I Can/I Will” comeback mantra.
Returning to motorsports less than a year later, Saunders rode a custom Polaris Ranger RZR on the parade lap of last year’s USAC-sanctioned Traxxas TORC Series off-road truck event at nearby RedBud MX – foreshadowing what’s become a warp speed return to motorsports for the 20-year-old from Lakeville. In recent weeks Saunders has even strapped himself into a 600cc Mini Sprint, and clocked some head-turning laps at Plymouth Speedway. And there’s even talk of getting him maybe back on a dirt bike!
“I can’t begin to thank Travis and his Crew enough for coming to put on a show for the fans at Plymouth Speedway,” said Eric Saunders. “I don’t think the motorsports fans in this area have any idea what they’re in store for. The place will for sure be packed and the racing’s gonna be great. I can’t wait.”
In addition to Pastrana, Saunders has the green light to go racing – and the backing – from family friend and NASCAR great, Tony Stewart and Tracy Trotter. And as he continues to rehab and improve his strength, there’s no doubt a 600 Mini Sprint is in his future as they’re racing all over the United States.
