The One Book, One County book for 2014 events begin soon. The book chosen is Orphan Train by Christina Baker Kline. The public libraries in Marshall County have multiple copies. Time to get reading!
Plymouth Public Library will be showing the PBS documentary about the Orphan Trains at 6:30 p.m. on April 3rd in the Laramore Rooms. This film showing is free and light refreshments will be served.
On April 10th, the Plymouth book discussion about the book Orphan Trains by Christina Kline will be held at 6:30 p.m. in the Laramore Rooms. It is being led by Shirley Bergman. It is free and light refreshments will be served.
National Library Week is April 13th – April 19th. In addition, during National Library Week, the Plymouth Public Library will be accepting canned foods to pay off fines. The food will be given to the Marshall County Community Food Pantry. One can of food removes $1.00 of fines from a patron’s record. All materials must be returned or paid for.
Also, free replacement library cards will be available and dvd’s will be free during National Library Week.
Special Event on Wednesday, April 16th at the Marshall County Historical Museum features Larita Killian, the author of Zimbabwe Bound: A Woman’s Journey Through Africa. This free evening will include food and a slideshow and booktalk that has its origins in the orphan trains and Bourbon native, Anna MacKenzie who was one of children. Please join us at the Marshall County Historical Museum for food, meet the author, and the booktalk. Doors open at 5:30 and the booktalk will begin at 7. You will have time to explore the museum and explore our past as well.
Larita Killian currently teaches accounting at Indiana-Purdue University in Columbus, IN but was originally from a small farm near Lakeville.
