One-Stop Regisration Proves Successful

August 5, 2011

08/08/11 By all appearances, the Plymouth Schools could see an increase in enrollment for the 2011-2012 school year if the number of students registered within the past two days is any indication.

Last year, the school enrollment was 3,550. Dan Tyree, Plymouth Schools superintendent, said, “We always want to have more.” Plymouth does accept students from other school districts and has made it a policy to not charge any tuition fees.

This is the second year that the school system has held registration in one building. Tyree said they started the one-site registration after hearing comments from parents who have children in more than one building. He said parents indicated it was difficult to get time off from work or make other arrangements to attend registration at several different sites.

To speed up the process, the school encouraged parents to fill out an online registration form. Even if a family has more than one child to register, they still had to fill out only one form. For those who do not have access to a computer or need help in filling out the paperwork, a computer lab has been set up with several trained staff to walk parents through the process.

Beginning next week, registration will take place in the individual schools.

The schools will be holding “back to school nights” in each building when school begins so that children can become familiar with their classrooms and meet the school staff.

Tyree praised those working at the various sign-up areas saying, “I think our staff and volunteers have worked hard to make parents the number one customer.” He added, “It’s the beginning of what I believe will be a great year.”
