Christmas Stockings Packed for Operation Quiet Comfort

OQC2014_StockingStuffer_baggiesDozens of volunteers gathered Saturday morning at the home of Jan and Ken Houin to fill 800 Christmas Stockings for some of your injured and sick troops who are being treated at medic units oversees and at Walter Reed.

OQC2014_StockingStuffer_goodieBagThe event was the annual Operation Quiet Comfort Christmas packing day.

OQC2014_stockingStuffer_tieThe Christmas stockings were filled with a pair of white socks stuffed in the toe and then a bag of treats including a candy cane, candy, nuts, a beef stick, coco mix and more. There was also a baggie that had Christmas cards, a phone card, a deck of trivia cards, tissues, toe warmers and hand warmers and chap-stick.

OQC2014_StockingStuffer_Friendship QuiltersEach of the 25 big boxes were packed with a special handmade stocking made by the Friendship Quilters. These special stockings were filled with a miniature Christmas tree, garland and small decorations that can be used to decorate the various medical units where the boxes are sent.

OQC2014_StockingStuffer_packersOn Saturday packers placed 25 to 30 packed Christmas stockings in each box.

OQC2014_StockingStuffer_boxingAlso included were more Christmas cards and a sheet of paper with signatures of volunteers from OCC. The boxes weighted nearly 40 pounds and will be shipped through the US Post Office.
