Overmyer Appointed to 2nd Term on Statewide 911 Board

Kevin OvermyerGovernor Mike Pence recently made appointments to several boards and commissions.

Locally, Marshall County Commissioner Kevin G. Overmyer was reappointed to serve another three-year term through July 31, 2018 on the Statewide 911 Board.

The Statewide 9-1-1 Board replaced the wireless 9-1-1 board on July 1, 2012 when Indiana’s new   9-1-1 law became effective.  The board is a quasi-state government agency established by Indiana Code and operates under the Indiana Treasurer’s Office.  It has statewide jurisdiction over 9-1-1 services and is chair, by the state treasurer.  The board’s two primary responsibilities include collecting surcharges from all communication service providers and distributing the funding to local units of government, as well as the operation of a statewide public safety ESInet for 9-1-1 calls.

The board is comprises of thirteen members; three PSAP representatives, one county sheriff, one county commissioner, one municipal government, one large LEC, one small LEC, one VOIP provider, one CMRS provider, state fire marshal, superintendent of state police and the state treasurer.  Appointees serve at the pleasure of the Governor.
