Dalton Arrested after Striking 2 with Vehicle and Leaving the Scene

 Tuesday morning June 15th the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department received a 9-1-1 call regarding an accident involving two pedestrian and a in the 15,000 block of State Road 17 in Burr.

County police officers arriving on the scene found two victims, 24 year old Peggy Johnson and 47 year old Deborah Johnson, both are from Culver.  They were transported to Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center in Plymouth for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

A witness at the scene advised that the subject who had struck the women had fled the scene leaving southbound on State Road 17. 

Shortly after 6 a.m. with the assistance of the Knox Police and Starke County Sheriff’s Office the suspect, 20 year old Todd Dalton was located walking on State Road 8 east of Knox.  The vehicle involved was later found at the intersection of State Road 8 and 700 East. 

The investigation by Detective Ward Byers found that Dalton was dropping off 24 year old Peggy  Johnson at a residence in the 15,000 block of State Road 17 when an argument ensued between Dalton and Deborah Johnson.  While Peggy Johnson was exiting the vehicle Dalton began backing up striking both Peggy and Deborah Johnson.  Dalton also struck a row of mailboxes along the roadway. 

Todd Dalton was arrested and is currently being held in the Marshall County Jail on charges of failure to stop after an accident resulting in injuries, a class D felony and operating a motor vehicle without ever being licensed a class C misdemeanor.  His bond was set at $1,000 cash. 

The Marshall County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by Culver Police and EMS and Starke County Sheriff’s Officers.
