City Plan Commission Approves Plat Amendment for

May 14, 2013

05/15/13  The Plymouth Plan Commission approved the request of the Plymouth Industrial Development Corporation (PIDCO) to amend the original plat on the 8.81 acre parcel of the land in the industrial park.  The site designated for a “shell” building that will be a public-private partnership used to entice a new industry to the community.

The plat for the industrial park on the north side of US 30 at Pioneer Drive was laid out in the early 2000’s.  The developers include a non-access easement off of Pioneer Drive encouraging development to use the side-streets for business traffic rather than the main thoroughfare.

The proposed 45,000 square foot building would face Commerce Street with a join entrance and exit.  The set-up work with the first phase of the building but the site is set to allow two additional additions at 45,000 sq. ft.  Over all the final concept of the building would be 450 feet by 900 feet, a substantial facility.

Derek Spier, the economic development specialist6 with MCEDC told Plan Commission members that the amendment to allow access off of Pioneer Drive is a safety point and would improve traffic circulation with access to the northeast side of the facility.

The “shell” building is an economic development tool that will be built to meet the needs of new industry with higher ceiling heights and the ability to expand with ease.  In a survey completed last year it was determined that the county didn’t have any vacant facilities that would meet the needs of new industry.

PIDCO is working with the City of Plymouth on the project and antic breaking ground this summer on the project.
