01/28/13 Plymouth Mayor Mark Senter announced today the appointment of Dave Bacon as Chief of Police. Bacon’s law enforcement career spans more than twenty-one years with the Plymouth Police Department, the last nine of which he has served as Assistant Chief.
Soon after joining the department, Bacon became one of the first officers promoted to the newly created rank of Corporal before later attaining the rank of Sergeant. Bacon has a great deal of experience and training in all areas of the department’s operations and has previously served as an Evidence Technician, Indiana Law Enforcement Academy Certified Instructor and Firearms Instructor, Crime Prevention Officer, and Director of the Marshall County Drug Task Force. Prior to 1991, Bacon also worked part-time for the department as a radio dispatcher.
Bacon is a 1987 graduate of Plymouth High School. He went on to attend Ball State University and Ancilla College. Bacon and his wife Kathy have three children David, Elizabeth, and Daniel, all of which are active in Plymouth athletics. The family are members of the Plymouth Wesleyan Church.
Mayor Senter said, “I’ve got great confidence in Dave Bacon’s leadership and law enforcement skills and I’m excited by the perspective he’ll bring to the department as Chief.” Bacon will begin his work as Chief on February 1st.
Current Chief Jim Cox will remain with the department as a Detective Sergeant.
