06/21/13 If you haven’t experienced racing on the dirt track at Plymouth Speedway, now is the time.
Work has been ongoing at the track to make it the best it can be for this season of racing. The crew has been working hard and have consulted dirt track maintenance directors at Eldora Speedway and other dirt tracks in the state to get it just right. This Saturday might just be the best night of racing yet.
UMP Modifieds will be sliding on the dirt this Saturday, June 22 along with the Thunder Stocks, Super Street, USAC 600 Sprints, and USAC 600 Restricted Wing Sprints. The gate opens at 4 p.m. and racing begins at 7 p.m. ET. Raffle tickets will be available for purchase for a chance to win a trailer. You may buy a single ticket for $5.00 or five tickets for $20.
Last week, five NASCAR drivers raced on the dirt surface at Plymouth Speedway and found it a challenge to keep up with the regular season drivers. Justin Allgaier, a driver in the NASCAR Nationwide Series, said the chemistry at a dirt track is unique.
“When you come out to the dirt tracks, it’s the purest form of what we do,” said Allgaier. “Pretty much all of us that race at the NASCAR level have all been here at our starting point.”
Allgaier believes that being at the race track is the best way to experience the sport of racing.
“It doesn’t matter if you come on a Friday night or a Saturday night to a local dirt track like Plymouth Speedway, if you go out and sit in the crowd and you feel the feelings and you smell the smells and hear the sounds, very few people walk away from it and say they didn’t have a great time. Anybody who walks away from it, their blood is pumping and they’re having a blast. I think that’s truly what this sport is all about,” smiled Allgaier.
