Marshall County EMA Hosts Weather Radio Programing at Martins

June 24, 2010

06/24/10

The Marshall County Emergency Management Agency in partnership with Martin’s Supermarket, The National Weather Service, Marshall County Amateur Radio and the Marshall County Sheriff’s Reserve, will be participating in the NOAA Weather Radio Programming Day.

The event will be held this Saturday, June 26th from 9:00am until 1:00pm at the Martin’s Supermarket located at 865 E. Jefferson Street in Plymouth.

The recent storm activity we have experienced over the past three weekends is an excellent reason to invest in a NOAA Weather/ All Hazard Alert Radio.  These radios will alert you to dangerous weather approaching our area allowing you to take the necessary actions to protect you and your family.

NOAA Weather/All Hazard Alert Radios are capable of receiving weather and /or warning information from the National Weather Service Forecast Offices, approved Department of Homeland Security offices warning information, and messages from local and state Emergency Operations Centers that have been specifically authorized to disseminate warnings on the National Weather Radio operational frequencies.

NOAA Weather/All Hazard Alert Radio is a nationwide network of radio stations broadcasting continuous weather information directly from the Nation Weather Service office in Northern Indiana.  The National Weather Service broadcasts official Weather Service warnings, watches, forecasts and other hazard information 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.  Specific Area Message Encoding Technology (S.A.M.E.) allows the radio to be programmed to filter National Weather Service broadcasts of warnings and emergency alerts for a selected geographic area.

You may purchase a NOAA radio at the local Martin’s store or bring one that you already own in to be programmed.  There is no charge for this service.
