06/07/12 This Saturday will mark the third year for a successful downtown event — the P’Town Cruz’n car show on June 9. This year’s show will be larger than ever with the Auto Park co-sponsoring the event and chances to win TVs for both car owners and spectators.
Organizer Charlie Campiti said that City Center will again be the headquarters for the one-day event.
“Jim Vinall has graciously offered us the use of his building for the third year in a row,” said Campiti Monday afternoon.
He explained that the car show is open to everyone interested in cars.
“If it’s got tires and wheels, it’s welcome,” said Campiti. “What we are looking for is cars people have at home that they don’t take out because they don’t think they are show cars.”
Since the show is not judged, there will be ample time for car owners to talk with each other about what’s special about their particular vehicle.
Registration for the event is $10, and with their registration car owners will be automatically entered into a drawing for a 32-inch TV. To increase their chances of winning, car owners and attendees alike can go into one of the 25 downtown businesses participating and put their name into the contest again. Campiti explained that car owners could have up to 26 chances to win the TV, if they visit every store. Entering the drawing is free, and there are two TVs available — one for a car owner and one for a spectator. The TVs were donated by Walmart. All fees collected from registration will benefit the Marshall County Humane Society.
During the day — the show is from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. — attendees will also be able to purchase slices of pizza from five vendors competing to be named “Best Pizza in Downtown Plymouth.” Several non-profit organizations will be selling pizza from Granny’s, Bruno’s, Papa Johns, Mancinos, and Pizza Hut. At 3 p.m., the restaurant that has sold the most pizza will be declared the winner, and will take home a trophy sponsored by Carmaster Collision, Towing and Auto Sales. Carmaster is also providing plaques for all the pizza places that participate in the contest. The non-profit organizations selling the pizza will keep all the money they make.
The first 50 car owners to register their vehicle for the show will get a free copy of a DVD of this year’s show. The DVD will feature advertising from all participating downtown businesses.
Campiti said he hopes to have a large turnout this year, and emphasized that the event is budget-friendly.
“Everything is free,” said Campiti. “Just come down and enjoy the cars.”
