Culver Academies Quizbowl Team finishes Sixth at Midwest Championship, defeats National #4 IMSA and #19 New Trier.

    05/25/12 The Culver Quizbowl team placed sixth at the Midwest Championship at Northwestern University this past weekend. The Eagles, ranked nationally at #49, defeated eventual Midwest Champions Illinois Math and Science Academy 335-320, handing IMSA, ranked nationally at #4, one of the only three losses they suffered all weekend (they finished 19-3). Culver also defeated national #19 New Trier and #30 IMSA B, and they finished 9-0 against lower-ranked opponents to complete the weekend with a 12-10 record. Eagle team captain Andrew Van Duyn (CMA 2012) was awarded All-Midwest Honors at the second highest scorer for the weekend. Complete stats can be accessed at:

The team is traveling to Atlanta this weekend to compete in the High School National Championship Tournament. The Eagles won the Indiana State Championship in March to qualify for the National Championship. The Culver team, led by All-American Andrew Van Duyn ‘12, will compete against ten of the 240 teams in attendance on Saturday, and they will have the chance to advance to the Sunday playoffs if they win at least six of their preliminary matches.  Spectators are welcome to attend the tournament at the Hyatt Regency Atlanta.
