05/29/13 Three volunteers with the Plymouth Fire Department were recognized during the Board of Public Works and Safety meeting Tuesday night for their assistance at the Tri-Ancilla Sprint Triathlon.
Plymouth Fire Chief Rod Miller said volunteers, EMT Barb Bustamante, and Paramedic John Grolich were on routine standby Saturday, May 18th for the sporting event. Volunteer firefighter Art Jacobs realized one of the participants; a 55 year old male from Walkerton was in distress after exiting the swim portion. He immediately got Bustamante and Grolich and they began lifesaving actions on the man who had experienced a cardiac arrest.
Chief Miller said, “The valiant efforts of our staff saved that man and he is alive today because of their actions.”
Mayor Mark Senter read a proclamation of congratulations and citations for the three volunteers from the Plymouth Fire Department and Warsaw Firefighter Rob Barker who also assisted at the scene. The patient was released after three days of intense medical care. Senter said, “Bustamante, Grolich, Jacobs and Barker’s quick actions and response are a reflection of their leadership, training, and dedication to their profession.”
