07/11/13 Plymouth Building Commissioner Keith Hammonds told members of the Board of Public Works and Safety that he mailed a letter to John and Gwen Hoesel, owners of the Rees Theater at 100 North Michigan Street.
The letter orders them to take action on an issue. The letter gives them 60 days to make repairs to the buildings foundation. Hammonds said the front foundation wall is bad and causing the sidewalk to collapse.
Downtown business owner, Jim Vinall is helping the Hoesels since they are elderly and live out of town. He says the original foundation was not made to support the fill that was place by the city years ago when the lower store fronts were closed off and the sidewalk places to cover them.
He has been working with the city on the issue and Mayor Mark Senter said both the city and Hoesels will work together to fix the issue and share in the expense.
Hammonds presented his quarterly report to the Board of Public Works and Safety. During the months of April, May and June the Building Commissioner issued 74 permits, 27 commercial and 47 residential. The fee of the permits was $8,245 and the estimated value of the project the permits were for totaled $6,974,530.
Permits issued during the second quarter of 2013 included 4 single family homes, 3 new construction, 13 additions, 13 renovations, 7 electric permits, 3 pools, 2 demolitions, 7 fences, 1 foundation, 6 decks, 4 signs, 3 porches, 4 accessory structures, 1 roof, 1 tank, 1 work site, and 1 plumbing.
A comparison between 2012 and 2013 show 77 permits issued in 2012 and 74 in 2013. The estimated cost of construction was $3,854,699 in 2012 and $6.9 million this year
