07/06/11 Residents of Plymouth will begin receiving their new recycling toters today.
Bob Stone from Allied Waste Services confirmed that the new recycling toters were delivered to the City Street Department and will be distributed to city customers on Thursday and Friday.
Allied Waste – Republic will include an information sheet with the toters that will include items acceptable for recycling and instructions for placement of the new recycle totes with a green lid.
Recyclable material currently being accepted by Allied – Republic include Metal Cans: aluminum, tin, steel and bi-metal food and beverage containers.
Plastics: (#1 thru #7) PET (#1) soft drink bottles, peanut butter jars & microwaveable food trays, HDPE (#2) milk jugs, detergent bottles, margarine tubs, PVC (#3) baby bottles, shower curtains, cooking oil bottles, small sections of pvc pipes, LDPE (#4) bread bags, grocery bags, squeeze bottles, dry cleaning bags, PP (#5) medicine bottles and plastic bottle caps, catsup bottles and Tupperware.
Glass food and beverage containers: clear and all colors (unbroken)
Paper Products: Newspapers, & slick inserts, magazines, junk mail, catalogues, phone books, small pieces of cardboard, paperboard (cereal & tissue boxes), post-it notes, carbonless office, fax and computer paper, construction paper, soft back books, hard back books (cover contains glues-remove it first).
Although the City of Plymouth and Allied – Republic is promoting recycling in a big way there are still some items that they do not accept. Those include: Carbon paper, engine oil bottles, wax coated milk and juice cartons, paper and other items with food or other residue, tissue paper, paper towels, wood, construction or demolition debris, clothing items, broken glass, window glass, pyrex, light bulbs, drinking glasses, plates & dishes, batteries, tires & car parts.
The old red or orange recycling tubs from the city are yours. You can keep them or place them in your new toter and they can be recycled.
