United Way Announces 9th Annual RIDE FOR UNITED WAY benefitting Heminger House

June 10, 2010

06/10/10

The ninth annual “Ride for United Way” is scheduled for Saturday, June 26, 2010.  Motorcycle ride registration begins at 9:00 am at Christos’ Banquet Center located at 830 Lincolnway East, Plymouth.  A brief riders meeting will be held at 9:45 am.  Riders will leave Christos’ beginning at 10:00 am and travel throughout Marshall County on a 60+ mile route.

This year the United Way is partnering with Heminger House with all proceeds providing support for their programs.  Heminger House is a shelter for women and children of domestic violence.   The shelter’s goal is to empower women to choose a violence free life.  In 2009 they helped 137 women and 52 children escape a battering situation.

A new ride route this year will take motorcyclists through Bremen, Bourbon, Argos, and Plymouth to raise awareness for the United Way of Marshall County and provide needed funding for Heminger House.

The ride route will start at Christos’ Banquet Center and head west briefly until turning north.  Riders will enjoy a tour around Lake of the Woods to a first stop at the VFW in Bremen.  After the first comfort stop, riders will head east through Bremen, then south through Bourbon, stopping at the American Legion in Argos.  The ride will continue west until turning north on Muckshaw Road, ultimately riding north through downtown Plymouth and ending at the Moose Family Center in Plymouth.  Pizzas donated by Papa’s in Culver and other food items donated by Hoosier Catering will be served.  In addition, there will be music, a cash bar, door prizes, and a silent auction.

The first 150 participants to register will receive a T-shirt.  Admission is $25.00 per pilot (driver) and $10.00 per co-pilot (passenger).  Non-riders can join the group for lunch at the Moose Family Center at 1:00 pm at a cost of $5.00 per person.  This is a family friendly event—children are welcome.  Come enjoy a great day!

United Way leadership will join the ride with Founder and Event Chair Cindy Rash and Jennifer Maddox, Executive Director.
