PHS Runner Invited to Run Down Under

September 14, 2012

09/17/12 Plymouth High School senior, Meagan Fisher, is a “natural” runner, according to her Track and Field Coach Paul Patrick. Patrick said, “She is the fastest 800 meter (2:18) runner I have had in my eight years of coaching.” He added, she also set a state record, had two semi-state girths, came in 4th at Regionals in both her sophomore and junior years, and was the team’s leader point scorer last year.

Patrick said she is an incredible runner who runs with grace and has a natural stride.

Fisher completes the 400 in: 61 and is also a high jumper. Patrick said Fisher runs every chance she gets and often joins adults to run in the off season.

Patrick said Fisher’s Cross Country Coach Jami Holm trains with her in the fall. He said, “Holm has help in the development of Meagan as a runner.”

Now, Fisher has an opportunity to compete next summer in Australia. Fisher received the invitation to compete by Down Under Sports. If she can raise the fees, she would be representing Indiana in an international track and filed event. Down Under Sports has been operating since 1989 and has succeeded in bringing approximately 300 teenagers each year from across the United States to compete against other teen athletes from around the world, according to her mother Leslie Fisher.

Since the cost of the trip is $5,000, Leslie Fisher is hoping the community, family and friends will help sponsor Meagan. Leslie Fisher said, “What if you donate today and watch her run in the Olympics in four or even eight years?” Fisher said her daughter has fallen in love with a sport and is willing to sacrifice food, sleep, time, tears, blood and sweat to get better.
