05/29/12 The Plymouth Chapter of Kiwanis has awarded to five $1,000 scholarships to Plymouth High School and Argos seniors.
Mariah Adams plans on attending Ancilla College this fall and received the $1,000 Kiwanis Ancilla Memorial Scholarship. She plans to pursue a degree in Behavioral Science . The scholarship was established by Clarence Spuller who had perfect attendance with the Plymouth Kiwanis for 46 years before health problems forced him to become inactive. Spuller was a strong supporter of education and this scholarship was established in his honor.
The Plymouth High School Key Club Scholarship went to Cassandra Gaines. She will be attending Indiana University and plans to pursue a degree in Nursing. The Key Club is part of the world-wide service organization of Kiwanis International. The organizations raise money for worthy causes, volunteer to help enrich the lives of elderly and youth and give something back to the communities they live in. Dolph was an outstanding member of the Plymouth High School Key Club and received a $1,000 scholarship.
The $1,000 Kiwanis Vocational Award was given to Jordan Scheetz. Sheets plans to study Construction Management at either Ball State or Ivy Tech. The scholarship was named in honor of Merle Storombeck who was a 1918 Plymouth High School graduate and was named a Plymouth High School Distinguished Alumni in 1987,
The Kiwanis Gambrel Memorial Speech Team Award was given to Kelsey Shaffer. Shaffer plans to attend Indiana University in the fall for a degree in International Studies . This $1,000 scholarship was named in honor of Troy Gambrel who was an active and dedicated student member of the Plymouth High School Speech Team.Troytragically lost his life in a car accident on his way to a speech contest. The scholarship is awarded each year to further the education of an outstanding speech team member.
In Argos, Keri Bair was named the winner of the $1,000 Charles Bradley Memorial Scholarship. Bair plans to attend Purdue University in the fall for a degree in Pharmacy. The Charles Bradley Memorial Scholarship was created in honor of Charlie Bradley of Argos who passed away in 2009. Charlie was a long time member of Kiwanis and heavily involved in 4-H. He was also a retired Purdue Extension agent. The scholarship was created for Argos students who are active in 4-H and seeking a degree from Purdue.
Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to changing the world, one child and once community at a time.
