Senator Mishler Appointed to State Budget Committee

June 18, 2013

06/19/13 Indiana Senate President Pro Tem David Long (R-FortWayne) has appointed State SenatorRyan Mishler (R-Bremen) as a member of the State Budget Committee, which plays a big part in analyzing the state’s fiscal policy.

“The Budget Committee meets year round — even during session — to receive updated revenue predications and hear other state agencies’ budget requests,” Mishler said. “This past April, the revenue forecast was presented to the State Budget Committee and played a significant role in the legislature’s decision to implement a cut to the personal income tax.”

In addition, Mishler was appointed to the Health Finance Commission and the Natural Resources Study Committee.

Each summer and fall — when Indiana’s part-time legislature is not in session — lawmakers are assigned to interim study committees that meet to review the state’s top issues, as identified by the General Assembly during the prior legislative session.

“Study committees are an essential part of Indiana’s legislative process,” Long said. “Many of the issues that lawmakers consider during the summer and fall months are the foundation for legislation that will come before the General Assembly in the upcoming session.”

Study committee topics are assigned by the Legislative Council, comprised of 16 voting members — eight from the House of Representatives and eight from the Senate.
