“Senior Cords Craze” Exhibit at the Marshall County Museum

February 26, 2015

Senior Cords exhibitThe new feature exhibit at the Marshall County Museum showcases the senior cords fad from the 1950s through 1970s.  A tradition unique to Indiana and Hoosier hysteria, the corduroy pants and skirts were a symbol of individuality and school spirit!  Worn at ball games, pep sessions and special school events, the hand-painted images on the cords became a true form of “art,” and a distinct representation of the era.

The museum put out a notice to the community seeking a few senior cords from now “senior” citizens in the area.  The response was fantastic, with over 25 pair of pants, skirts, frocks and even “hot pants” were added to the vintage collection thanks to many helpful local alumni.

senior cordsThe new display represents many different high schools in the area, highlighting historic pieces of artwork that pay tribute to all the baby-boomers of Marshall County!  If you wish to loan a pair of your own senior cords to be part of the exhibit, bring them to the museum, or call 574-936-2306 for more information.  Encounter this new exhibit and much more at the Marshall County Museum, 123 North Michigan Street in downtown Plymouth!
