10/07/11 The Marshall County Historical Museum has a new sign that hopefully will help visitors locate the main entrance. During the August 2, 2011 meeting of the Plymouth BZA (Board of Zoning Appeals), a variance was granted to increase the projected distance of a wall sign that has now been attached to the building at the corner of Garro and Michigan Streets.
Speaking on behalf of the museum at that BZA meeting was local architect Brent Martin and Museum Director Linda Rippy. Martin explained that the museum is now a collection of three downtown buildings with multiple exists. According to Martin and Rippy, the staff had complaints from patrons who were confused over which door to use to enter.
Although there was some concerns from members of the BZA about how safe the signage would be if attached at a 45 degree angle would be during strong winds, Martin explained at that time that the sign would be anchored at three points and he did not feel that there would be a problem.
The signage, designed and installed by Vanadco Signs, is laser-cut metal to fit in with the classic design of the building.
