11/29/11 Earlier this month Plymouth Municipal Airport Manager David Lattimer was approached by several individuals who are on the Board of Directors for Culver Academies. They informed him that they will be resuming their student flight training program although they will not actually do the training on their field or with their own staff. Their intentions are to contract with someone to provide student flight training. Lattimer explained that they are currently looking at the three local airports, Rochester/Fulton County Airport, the Starke County Airport and the Plymouth Municipal Airport.
Aviation Board President Tom Flynn said he has talked with John Buxton of CMA while Lattimer has talked with James Greene, Captain US Navy Retired. They have toured the facilities at the Plymouth Airport and found that office space is available while with some re-arranging of planes they could use Hanger A. Lattimer said the school has purchased three simulators with the intention of installing two at CMA and the third to be installed at their chosen airport.
Flynn said, “CMA is located in Marshall County and we need to keep them here.” He continued, “We are in competition with Starke County and we need to do whatever it takes to get them in the Plymouth Airport.”
