Culver Library Summer Reading Program Kicks-off

June 6, 2014

On Monday, June 2, the Culver-Union Township Public Library held a Summer Reading Kickoff party for all ages. The CUTPL Friends of the Library provided ice cream and toppings for an ice cream sundae bar.  Attendees of all ages signed up for the summer reading program and enjoyed ice cream sundaes. Special guest and local author, Jack Johnston, was in attendance with copies of his children’s book The Ice Cream Hotel. Jack Johnston signed books and also read his story, The Ice Cream Hotel, to the children in attendance. When asked where he got the idea to write The Ice Cream Hotel, Johnston explained, “I saw a drawing my niece had made for art class, and I thought it would make a great picture book.  I thought about it all night, and the next morning I wrote the story in a couple hours.”

Library patrons of all ages will be able to sign up for summer reading programs throughout the remainder of June and July. The programs run from Monday, June 2 through Thursday, July 31. Adults can sign up for the Literary Elements program, and teens and children can sign up for Spark a Reaction or Fizz, Boom, Read, respectively.
