Summit Chapel School Open House this Saturday

May 13, 2013

05/14/13 A public Open House is scheduled for the Summit Chapel School this Saturday, May 18th from 12 p.m. until 2 p.m.

Retired teacher, Norma Montgomery serves as the “school marm” and will explain how the one-room school was run until it closed in 1928.  Members of the Wythougan Valley Preservation Council will be on hand to answer questions about the 80 year history of the community schoolhouse that also served as a meeting room.   The Open House will include a display of numerous pictures of the building and former students.

Summit Chapel School is located on State Road 10, east of State Road 331 on the hill by the cemetery.  Owned by Tippecanoe Township, this historic landmark is an on-going project of the Wythougan Valley Preservation Council, a Marshall County organization involved in the preservation of local landmarks.

The Open House is free although donations for the upkeep are most welcome.  It’s been 10 years since the outside was painted and its time to do it again.  The estimated cost is $2,000.
