Plymouth Students WILL have School on Friday

January 29, 2014

01/20/14 Plymouth Superintendent of Schools, Dan Tyree said, “All Plymouth students are expected to be in class this Friday, January 7th.”  Through the School Reach program, students and parents were notified of the calendar change Wednesday afternoon just before 3 p.m.

The corporation had originally scheduled a Staff Development Day this Friday but with a total of 8 snow days so far this school year…after speaking with the Plymouth Educational Association (PEA) and taking a straw pole of school board members it was decided to use this Friday as one of the make-up dates.

Martin Luther King Day on January 20th was also used as a make–up date. That leaves 6 days to make up.  Tyree said the school has applied for 2 waiver days due to the blizzard conditions earlier in the month. With that waive there would still be 4 days left to make up.

Superintendent Tyree said he will be asking the school board next week to consider allowing a snow makeup date next Friday, February 7th.  That date is listed on the school calendar as Winter Break.    Monday, February 17th, Presidents Day is listed as another makeup date and Tyree will seek permission to use that day too.  That will still leave a couple a days to make up at the end of the school year if no additional snow days or extreme cold weather days are needed for the remainder of the school year.

The State Superintendent of Public Instruction sent an email to superintendents around the state asking them for creativity in making up some of the missed snow days.  Superintendent Tyree said, “With all our students being one to one we suggested trying a virtual school day.”
