On Thursday the Plymouth Police Department started tagging vehicles that had obviously not moved since the snow storm over this past weekend.
The cars being tagged are parked on a city street or in a city parking lot. The bright orange tag indicates to the owner that they have 72 hours to remove the vehicle or it can be towed, at the owner’s expense.
Police Chief Dave Bacon said, “It is necessary to tag the vehicles so that the street department can effectively clear the roadways and city owned parking lots.”
Plymouth police officers tagged thirty-eight vehicles on Thursday.
Plymouth Municipal Code defines an abandoned vehicle (in part) as
(1) a vehicle located on public property illegally;
(2) A vehicle left on public property continuously without being moved for 3 days;
(3) A vehicle located on public property in such a manner as to constitute a hazard or obstruction to the movement of pedestrian or vehicular traffic on a public right-of-way;
The penalty provision is a fine of not less than $10 nor more that $100 in addition to the towing and storage fees.
