Farmers’ Market in Downtown this Saturday

August 27, 2010

The Plymouth Farmers’ Market has offered tastings throughout the summer depending on what’s in season.  Early on, it was strawberry shortcake with Janice Hurford’s Sunny Acre succulents in early May; blueberry shortcake in July; melon tasting and tomato tasting in August. Still to come is more cheese tasting as well as apples, some dipped in caramel, in September. Tom Keb’s famous chili will be featured the final day of the Market on October 9.

Where did the summer go? Cooking on-site has been popular affording even more tasting. This Saturday, Jerry Nikitas will be preparing a favorite Greek dish, Briami, which is in the Plymouth Farmers’ Market Cookbook. It’s a vegetarian stew with all shopping done at the Market, followed by tasting. The cookbook is still available for $9 at the Market on Saturdays or the Chamber of Commerce Office on Michigan Street in downtown.

The Market, with close to 40 vendors, continues to be a gathering place for shoppers to enjoy the fruits of our local growers and visit with friends. The Market will be held during Blueberry Festival on Saturday, Sept. 4, with music by Jim Vinall.
