01/04/11 State Senator Ed Charbonneau (R-Valparaiso) will assist Hoosiers by mailing state income tax forms to residents unable to obtain the documents online, at public libraries or offices of tax preparers and the Indiana Department of Revenue (IDOR).
Officials at IDOR last week announced tax booklets would no longer be mailed as a cost-saving measure.
Charbonneau said nearly two-thirds of Indiana residents no longer make use of the hardcopy forms and instead file their taxes electronically. The move to eliminate the mass mailing of forms will save taxpayers an estimated $200,000 each year.
“Many Hoosiers have access to state tax forms via their computers or professional preparers,” Charbonneau said. “For those without access to the Internet, transportation or the assistance of an accountant, my office will have state tax forms readily available for taxpayers in northwest Indiana. As a public service, those who need state tax forms may contact my office and I will mail them the needed documents.”
Charbonneau said constituents can request the forms by calling toll-free at 800-382-9467 or writing his office at Sen. Ed Charbonneau, Indiana State Senate, 200 W. Washington St., Indianapolis, IN 46204-2786.
Sen. Charbonneau represents Senate District 5, which includes Starke County and portions of Porter, LaPorte, Marshall, Jasper, Pulaski and St. Joseph counties.
