St. Rep. Harman Talks 2015 Pre-Session Survey Results

State Rep Tim HarmanIndiana State Representative for District 17 Tim Harman was in the WTCA studios recently and discussed the 2015 Pre-Session Survey results.

The issue of carry-out alcohol on Sunday on the survey is a very close issue but those against it out weigh those in favor by 53% to 45% with 2% still undecided.  Another question on the survey pertaining to alcohol was would you support the sale of cold beer by retailers other than liquor stores?  Their example was grocery and convenience stores.  Again 54% were not included to allow the sale of cold beer while 42 percent were agreeable and 4% were undecided.

The next several survey questions were on education.  The question on new dollars allocated to local schools to fix the funding formula and increase the statewide per  student base funding amount so all school receive an equivalent increase in per student funding had 65% in favor, only 20% said no and 15% were undecided.

Funding based on school performance outcomes was divided with 44% yes, 41% no and 15% were undecided.

State Rep. Tim Harman was not surprised by the results for a the question regarding changes to allow the Superintendent of Public Instruction to be an appointed position rather than an elected position.  66% vote no while 20% supported the idea and 14% were undecided.

Indiana’s $2 billion savings account was questioned as to whether it was too much, too little or just right.  50% of the constituents who completed the survey thought it was just right while 39% said it was too little and 11% thought it was too high.

The last two Indiana legislative survey involved drugs.  It was nearly an even split on whether pseudoephedrine should be available only by prescription.  48% said yes while 45% voted no and 7% were undecided.

Drug testing for welfare recipients was an overwhelming yes with 90% while 7% were not in favor and 3% were undecided.
