City Plants 26 New Trees

November 28, 2012

11/29/12 This week the City of Plymouth did their annual tree planting project.  $7,000 was allotted in this year’s budget to plant new trees.  Some new trees are planted where other have been taken down or destroyed by storms.

White tipped sticks with white circles were seen in the right-of-ways around town and were locations where the city had determined the need for a new tree.  The sticks were also used for the utility companies to know locations so they could be assured that planting the new trees would not interfere with underground utilities.

According to Jim Marquardt, City Street Superintendent, this year 26 news trees are being planted. A few of the locations are getting two trees while most will have one new tree planted.  The locations for the new trees include North Walnut Street, North Center Street, North Michigan Street, West Washington Street, Hope Blvd., South Michigan Street, South Kingston, Highland Court, Charles Street, Dickson, Lewis Street, Pennsylvania Avenue, West LaPorte Street, and West Jefferson Street.

The trees are purchased and planted by Prices Nursery at a reduced rate for the city.
