09/24/13 Volunteers are gearing up for a blitz of area businesses in support of the 2013 United Way of Marshall County fund drive. Blitz volunteers will gather at 9 am on Wednesday, September 25, at Opie’s Deli, 114 N Michigan St, Plymouth, IN.
This year’s campaign theme is “Power of We” and the goal is to raise $500,000 to support programs and services of 22 local agencies that are working every day to improve the quality of life for all county residents. “United Way of Marshall County is your chance to save the day, and more importantly, your chance to change our community,” said John Oliver III, one of this year’s Campaign Chairs. “A gift to the United Way stays right here in Marshall County. Our goal is to unite the resources of our community to change lives right here at home,” he added. Oliver Ford Lincoln jump-started the campaign recently when they sponsored Drive One for United Way with the potential for a $6,000 donation to the 2013 campaign.
Oliver is one of five campaign chairs who are leading the effort again this year. Bill Davis, Ameriprise Financial; Dave Goebel from RE/MAX Oak Crest; Scott Graybill, retired CEO from Community Hospital of Bremen; John Oliver III, Oliver Ford Lincoln; and Lance Overmyer, Overmyer Water were also part of the highly successful 2012 team that surpassed last year’s $475,000 goal.
“Together we can do so much,” said United Way Executive Director Linda Yoder. “United Way is an incredibly powerful way we can work seamlessly together to make a real difference in our communities, providing hope and opportunity to our friends, neighbors, co-workers and families.”
Blitz volunteers will meet for coffee and training with United Way before hitting the streets to deliver information about United Way agencies, programs and services to local businesses. They will meet back at Opie’s Deli at noon. Opie’s is one of the restaurants participating in Dine Out for United Way; a portion of the proceeds at Opie’s from Monday through Saturday, September 23-28, will support the campaign.
