Periodic Brief Closures Friday, Lane Restrictions Monday and Tuesday on 31

April 3, 2014

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) announces restrictions coming to U.S. 31, between Johnson Road and Ireland Road in South Bend.

On Friday, April 4th drivers will experience periodic 15 minute complete closures of U.S. 31, between Johnson Road and the U.S. 20 Bypass between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. AEP crews will be installing power lines across the roadway during these brief closures. The work is necessary to advance INDOT’s new U.S. 31 project. All traffic will be stopped, both northbound and southbound, between this stretch for about 15 minutes at a time, approximately five times throughout the day. The closures are necessary to ensure driver safety as crews work across the roadway.

On Monday and Tuesday, April 7th and 8th  U.S. 31 will be down to one lane in each direction, between Johnson Road and Ireland Road, so crews can remove the center median and install panel signs.

To avoid delays during all these restrictions drivers are encouraged to avoid U.S. 31 between Johnson Road and Ireland Road in South Bend on April 4, 7, and 8.

Drivers in Northwest Indiana can monitor road closures and traffic alerts at any time via the District’s social media channels: www.Facebook.com/INDOTNorthwest or Twitter @INDOTNorthwest. Or visit http://www.trafficwise.in.gov for INDOT’s TrafficWise Traveler Information Service.
