Culver Man Arrested Following Accident at 30 & King Road

  12/24/13 On Friday, December 20th at approximately 5:20 p.m.  the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department received several 9-1-1 calls in reference to a dark colored Dodge pickup truck traveling on Lincoln Highway.  Callers suspected the driver to be impaired due to his poor driving. Several officers began to patrol the area in an attempt to locate the vehicle in question.

At approximately 5:25 p.m. the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department received a 9-1-1 call of a Dodge pick-up truck having been involved in an auto accident with another vehicle at the intersection of U.S. 30 and King Road. 

County Officer Les McFarland arrived on the scene and located the vehicle and driver. The driver, 43 year old Shawn M. Hoogerhyde of Culver was arrested for allegedly operating while intoxicated causing bodily injury.

Deputy Jordan Rans arrived and investigated the auto accident along with Officer McFarland.

The other driver, 25 year old Alexey Y. Zakharov was treated at the scene by the Plymouth EMS and was transported to Saint Joseph Regional Hospital for examination and treatment for injuries sustained in the accident.

Mr. Hoogerhyde was transported to the Marshall County Jail and booked in on a $3,005 bond. He was released later on Saturday after posting bond and received an January 7th Marshall Superior Court II date for his initial hearing.


Readers are reminded that charging information supported by an affidavit of probable cause is a mere allegation that a crime has been committed and that there is only probable cause to believe a crime has been committed.
