M.C. Coroner Confirms Death by Drowning

  07/17/13 Marshall County Coroner Bill Cleavenger assisted with Tuesday’s autopsy of 22 year old Valentin Sirghi, the Plymouth man that was pulled from Lake Maxinkuckee Sunday evening. 

Tuesday afternoon Cleavenger confirmed that Sirghi died of asphyxiation due to drowning. 

Sirghi was swimming with a friend near the buoy line on the east end of the Culver Town Park Beach.  As the friend returned to the beach and saw Sirghi going under water.  Emergency responders including the dive team spent nearly a half hour searching the water for his body.  Once located, EMS began CPA and transported him to Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center in Plymouth.   

Sirghi was pronounced dead at the hospital about 8:30 p.m. 

The preliminary determination is drowning although final toxicology results will be the final determination.
