04/21/14 World book Night is an annual celebration dedicated to spreading the love of reading – person to person. Each year on April 23, tens of thousands of people go out into their communities and give half a million FREE World book Night paperbacks to light and non-readers.
Shirley Bergman of Plymouth will be doing her share of distributing books in Plymouth. Each year 30-35 books are chosen by an independent panel of librarians and booksellers. Bergman will personally pass out 20 copies of the title she has chosen which is “Wait Till Next Year” by Doris Kearns Goodwin.
Bergman explained why the book givers receive only 20 paperback copies of one World Book Night U. S. title.
“It’s not too many to carry but it’s enough to share with a good number of potential new readers,” explained Bergman.
Bergman decided to pass her books out at Miller’s Assisted Living Community on Wednesday, April 23rd at 2:00 p.m. She chose the book “Wait Till Next Year” based on the fact that it is a memoir of Goodwin’s childhood growing up in New York and the love she had for her family and the Brooklyn Dodgers. Bergman thought this book would appeal to an older generation who could relate to the time era in the book.
Those wishing to hear more about World Book Night are invited to attend Bergman’s program at Miller’s Assisted Living located at 625 Oakhill Avenue in Plymouth.
