Plymouth Band to host 2nd annual “Zombie Chase 5K Run”

June 4, 2014

On Saturday, June 7th, the Plymouth HS Band will host the second annual “Zombie Chase 5K Run” through the trails of Centennial Park.

This is no ordinary 5k event!  The goal of this race is not to win or have the fastest completion time.  The goal is to “survive” the race and escape nearly 100 zombies that infest the 5k route!   Each participant is fit with a belt with 4 flag football style “life flags” on their waist.   As the participant completes the course, they will pass through numerous zombie infested zones with themes.  Participants will have to maneuver through these zones with caution as the zombies will attempt to steal the “life flags” from the participants belt.  Only the participants that complete the course with at least one remaining “life flag” will be considered a survivor of the race!

“This event was so much fun last year that we had to host it again and hope that it will become an annual event for our program.   People had a blast on the course and were asking us to please host the event again this year,” said band director Bryan Ames.   “Each zombie zone is full of costumed students that spend a lot of time putting together the stations to match a theme.”    The thematic zombie zones that participants will attempt to pass through will include: zombie wedding party, zombie hillbillies, zombie hospital, zombie prom, and zombie hobos.  There are also two obstacle courses along the trail that participants can work through to gain additional “life flags” for completion.

The Zombie Chase 5K is open to all age groups and you can run or walk the course (although it is recommended to run through the zombie zones).  Every runner will receive a complimentary participation medal and a photograph at the end of the race with a zombie!

Registration forms can be picked up at the Plymouth High School main office or online at www.prideofplymouth.com.    On site registration for the event is $40 per participant.   Registration forms received before the event are a discounted $35 pre-paid registration.

Come and join the music department for a great family activity open to all age groups on Saturday, June 7th!    The event begins at Plymouth High School and on-site registration begins at 9:30 a.m.   The run begins at 10:00 a.m.
